Manager of Group Vacations


Travel Leaders – Discovery World Travel is looking to hire an experienced self-starter to manage and develop our Vacation Group Travel Department. This individual will work closely with our valued travel partners and staff to develop unique travel experiences for custom groups, events and affinity groups. We are looking for creativity and someone that has confidence and ability to chart their and our future. Responsibility

The Manager of Group Vacations is responsible for working with Travel Leaders – Discovery World Travel partners to create, organize and plan custom group vacations and events, most taking place in international destinations. You will ensure that all group travel components that are planned, run according to plan to ensure guest satisfaction, i.e., confirm reservations with providers, event schedules, transfers, pricing, selecting unique venues resulting in special experiences. This person may also be involved in marketing and presentations to staff, consumers and group leaders. 

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills. This is one of the most important skills for any manager to possess. The manager will interact directly with the travel consultant team, suppliers and clients. Hence, it is essential for the manager have excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively and persuasively.
  • A good sense of business being flexible, adaptable to change and anticipate new and innovative products/suppliers and destinations.
  • Great organizational skills in managing group tours, planning complex itineraries and off-site tour managers.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and often under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative to negotiate with partners to achieve the best price and value for Travel Leaders and our partners.
  • Knowledge of any additional language(s) is helpful. The manager will interact with suppliers around the globe, with Spanish spoken by many of our supplier partners.
  • The ability to focus on others. The successful manager must be able to focus on our client’s objectives and be a strong advocate of their needs.
  • Good leadership skills. A team is only as good as its leader. As a group manager, you will have influence with many people under your creative umbrella and guest satisfaction responsibility.
  • Good judge of character. As a manager, you may have opportunities to hire staff in the future. During the hiring process, you must be able to accurately assess whether the candidate is a good match for the position. Also, a manager will know how to coach staff to their highest achievement, and when necessary, address performance issues.
  • Willingness to travel. The job is not always desk-bound and can involve travel managing group tours. Hence, the manager must be willing to travel when and where the job demands.
  • A team player. This is a critical skill requirement in working with our suppliers and internal/external clients.
  • Knowledge of computer software like MS Office, Power Point and Excel. Having experience in working with GroupMinder or similar group travel software is an additional bonus.
  • Training front line travel consultants on specifics of our group and supplier products.
  • Worldwide Travel Experience and successful history in creating custom vacations.
  • Scheduled Air Contracts. The ideal candidate will have experience in negotiating group air charter and scheduled air contracts.

Education and Experience
Applicants must have at minimum a High School Diploma or equivalent, preferably a College Associate or Bachelor´s Degree. A minimum of five years of experience in the travel or tourism industry, group travel, meetings or incentives or equivalent is required.
